Cricket News

March 31 saw the end of the 1972-73 Gisborne cricket season and cricket clubs gathered at the cricket pavilion at the Harry darker Reserve for the presentation of trophies after the last game on the Saturday.

Mr Frank Martin (P.B. Cricket Association president) presented the trophies. He is shown with Marist captain Frank Lloyd (centre) and United captain John Brooks. Marist was the runner-up in the senior A championship, winner of the one-day competition and runner-up in the Guy and Dunsmore tournament. United won the senior A championship, the Guy and Dunsmore tournament, while John Brooks took the most outstanding player and best all rounder titles, and the Fraser Shield.

P.B.C.A. chairman John Heikell is shown with Messrs Bob Carswell, Arthur Armitage and Trevor Mills. Messrs Carswell and Armitage were awarded pocket badges for long service to the association, while Trevor Mills received the cup for the best bowling average for the season.

Not to be left out, the junior cricketers had a feast of chips and fizz to mark the end of their season on the Saturday morning. At left is their coach, John Heikell.
