Janis Schollum Is Bride Of The Year

$800 Raised By McGlashen Club

Mrs Janis Scholium (nee Lovell) won the Bride Of The Year Contest, an annual event run by the " McGlashen Swimming Club. This year, interest was greater than ever and, through its own hard work, the club raised $800 from the event, for club funds.

Mrs Meri Nepia (nee Pardoe) gained second place in the contest.

Mrs Jacqueline Beale (nee McLatchie) took third place.

Among the entrants was Mrs Carol Nelson (nee Stephens).

Prior to the brides appearing for the final voting, a parade of bridal wear from the past took place.

Sandra Cameron wears a flower-girl dress loaned by Mrs Waiters. Sandra is carrying a doll which is 60 years old and it is dressed in a christening gown which is 100 years old.

Part of the large crowd which crammed into the Midway Surf Club pavilion for the function.

Janice Chalmers models two trousseau gowns belonging to Mrs C. Hogarth. Both gowns are over 90 years old.

Wearing a wedding dress owned by Mrs J. Low is Mrs Yvonne Jenkins. The dress is more than 80 years old.

To lend a novel and exotic touch to the parade, Mrs Cherie Scott paraded in her beautiful silver lame Chinese wedding dress.
