Mr and Mrs David Waugh celebrated their golden wedding on May 10. Mr and Mrs Waugh, who live at 387 Childers Road, were married at a house ceremony in Salisbury Road in 1922. Mr Waugh is very well known as the bandmaster of the Gisborne Civic Band, and has been a prominent member of the Salvation Army band for many years. Originally from Scotland, Mr Waugh came to Gisborne with his parents and family, via Australia, in 1915. After being married in Gisborne the David Waughs settled in Australia where their six children were born. They left Brisbane just before the Second World War and returned to live in Gisborne, Mr Waugh becoming the first storeman in charge of the Gisborne Borough Council's first store in Childers Road. He retired in 1959. Mrs Waugh's interests have been her family and work with the Salvation Army. A family party was held to celebrate the occasion.
