The new Blue Pacific Motels at Waikanae Beach opened on November 1. The motels contain 12 luxury units which sleep from two to seven. Telephone, TV and central heating are all inclusive and every unit has a sea view.

The Wakelin block of shops on the corner of Palmerston Road and Carnarvon Street has been completed. The block already houses one firm, that of Clare's Mower Centre, while there is still one shop to let.

The wine industry is going ahead by leaps and bounds in the Gisborne district. Two new wine complexes are being erected in the Awapuni Industrial sub-division, where work is proceeding according to schedule on each plant.
