Now we are Five

Yes it is five years since the Springboks were in Gisborne and Jan Engelbrecht Taare as a baby was named after the South African team's star winger. Young Jan Taare is the son of the Bay's well known half-back, Tuta Taare and Mrs Taare. It was while the touring team was in Gisborne that Jan Engelbrecht's wife had a son which prompted Tuta and his wife to name their son after Jan. Jan Engelbrecht's parents, who were in New Zealand at the time following the tour, acted as godparents to Taare the younger. At his fifth birthday party Jan Taare is pictured with his guests at the party table.
