Magnificent Gift to City
Beautiful bars of greenstone joinee together with silver links form the magnificent chain of office for the Mayoress of Gisborne. At the base is carried the city coat of arms in gold and silver. The chain was presented to the Mayoress, Mrs H. H. Barker, who accepted it on behalf of the city. This wonderful bicentenary gift came from the regional council of the Tairawhiti District Maori Women's Welfare League in appreciation of Mrs Barker's, and the City of Gisborne's, co-operation and support during the National Maori Women's Welfare League's conference last July.
