Hard work on a limited budget of $120 enabled all the crippled children in the Gisborne-East Coast area to receive a present from Santa this year. Members of the Society spent many hours buying presents and gift wrapping them for posting. Field Officer Olive Hale, and members Margaret Tucker, Adine Fox jnr., Queenie Smyth and Adine Fox packing the presents.

Also working hard to give older people a little Christmas cheer is the Red Cross. The Old Folk's Help Bank was started in 1956 and elderly citizens each year receive a small gift.

The New Establishment Committee for a new free kindergarten raffled a monster Christmas stocking to raise funds for the venture. Tickets were sold from a bright red convertible at the Kaiti Mall by Ngaire Rice, Jan Roberts and Jenny Ryan.
