First Visit To Gisborne
The Governor-General, Sir Arthur Porritt, Lady Porritt and their daughter Joanna paid their first call to Gisborne with an official visit on July 1 and 2. Engagements included a civic welcome, a meeting with school children, afternoon tea in the Y.M.C.A., with local organisation's representatives, a visit to the health camp, and a reception at the Ringatu Church centenary celebrations. On the afternoon of the second day of the visit Their Excellencies paid a call to the Cook Hospital and talked with patients and staff.
