Gisborne Turns It On

A real surprise greeted Mrs Marjorie Colhoun of Auckland when she arrived in Gisborne for Anniversary Weekend.

After reading a leaflet in the Auckland branch of the Government Tourist Bureau describing Gisborne as some place different Mrs Colhoun wrote to Public Relations Officer John Burland for more information, ending her letter facetiously "show me Gisborne".

However, John Burland regarded it as a challenge and with' the co-operation of Gisborne citizens gave the lady the VIP treatment. The Masonic hotel provided free accommodation, where, in her room, flowers from Margaret Jones, of The Little Flower Shop, and fruit from Harry Low's in a flax basket specially woven by Mrs Lorna Ngata awaited her.

Marjorie Colhoun was taken to an avocado, morning tea, taken on a tour of Waihirere Wines, driven round free on a Red Bus sightseeing tour, and taken for a country drive and picnic by members of the W.D.F.F.

On leaving Gisborne she said it had been marvellous and she had been completely overwhelmed by Gisborne's hospitality.
