A 43 year continuous association with central School by members of the Upton families was ended last month when young Noel Upton left. He is pictured with his father, Mr Murray Upton, who started school in 1924, and was followed by his six brothers and sisters and then by his own eight children. Shaking hands with Noel is present headmaster, Mr D. J. Maxwell.

Upon his retirement at the end of last year, Mr T. C. Hepburn, popular headmaster of Manutuke school, was accorded honours and a presentation at the school's end of year function. Mr Darcy Ria (left) spoke on behalf of the Maori people and Mr John Foley (right) as chairman of the school committee.

Included in the Intermediate School concert held at the end of last year were items by the school orchestra. Under the guidance of Mr Frank Baker the 80 piece orchestra has done extremely well, part of which are from left Kristin Mayfield, Helen Metcalf, Robyn Douglas, Katrina Cook, Eileen Cruickshank, Barrie Davis, Nigel Croon, Robin Mathews, Eric Fleming and conductor Philippa Ryan.
