The Reverend Barry Johnson, son of Mr and Mrs W. C. Johnson, 22 Herbert Road, was ordained as a Roman Catholic priest in St. Mary's church on December 2. The sacrament was conferred by the Very Reverend R. J. G. Delargey, Auxiliary Bishop of Auckland, and he was assisted by Father N. W. Berridge and other priests.

The Red Cross also made a presentation of a TV set for the use of patients in Ward 7 (geriatric) instead of the usual gifts to patients. At the presentation are, from left. Packing more than eighty Christmas gifts for patients of Oakley Hospital, Auckland, are Mesdames Rhoda Wallen, Elizabeth Wilcox and Agnes Kelly. The gifts are from members of the I.O.O.F. Lodges who contribute money and presents for the annual presentation of gifts which are sent to the hospital.
