The Lytton High boys' first XI hockey team acquitted itself well in the Lower Hutt division N.Z. secondary school tournament during the August holidays The tournament, one of several held in the country, was contested by 16 teams, of which all but one came from the North Island. The Lytton team, the first from the school to win a tournament of this nature, was undefeated, winning seven games and drawing the eighth. It scored 33 goals for four against. Eight new teachers arrived from Britain during the August holidays to commence teaching at the Girls' and Lytton High Schools. They were brought to this country on the Government assisted passage overseas recruiting scheme and have three-year contracts in N.Z. At left is Miss J. Owen, who came from Bristol, and is teaching mathematics at the Girls' High. Also at this school is Miss M. P. Chritchley, a physical education teacher. Five of the six new teachers at Lytton are pictured at right. They are, from left, Mr J. Reynolds, originally from Carterton, N.Z., and more recently from Manchester, who is teaching English and French, Mrs M. S. Bennett, from Berkshire, chemistry, Mr M. S. Bennett, from Sussex, mathematics, Miss M. J. Hobday, from Worchester, English, and Miss D. Hazell, from Berkshire, physical education. Not pictured is Mr J. H. Megenis, formerly a guided weapons division project engineer in Bristol, who is teaching physics.

Winners of the schoolboys' 13th grade Saturday morning rugby competition was this St. Mary's team, coached by Mr Arthur Bartlett. The team won 11 of its 13 games, and scored 51 tries for 14 against.
