Syd was the eldest of the three sons of the late Reverend and Mrs Nikora Tautau of Mangape, Tolaga Bay, and was educated at the old Tolaga Bay Public School and Te Aute.
One of the eldest remaining citizens of the district Mr Waikatohu (Syd) Tautau who is pictured with three other well known and respected citizens of the area.
Mr and Mrs Wi Pere Amaru, formerly of "Kohimarama", Hauiti and now of Wellington. Wi Pere is on the teaching staff of the Rongotai Boys' College where he is also a sportsmaster.
Mrs Tiwai Waru (nee Brown) has gone to live at Mangatu. She was the second youngest of the four daughters of the late Mr and Mrs Reuben Brown of Mangatu. Married at an early age to the late Mr Tonga Waru, she attended the old Tolaga school for her education.
