Then and Now

Looking east down Gladstone Road from the Grey Street intersection, these two comparison views of Gisborne's main street show the progress building and transport have taken over the past half-century. Two of the Council's four Edison battery trams are shown on the Post Office to Stanley Road line, while the only other form of transport visible is horse-drawn buggies. Many of the buildings which lined the street in those days have since disappeared, to be replaced by more modern structures Most notable example of this is the former Reynolds establishment, now the site of the five-storey T and G Insurance building.
