"Bristling with the latest in atomic-age equipment, the Royal New Zealand Navy's most up-to-date ship" was the description given the cruiser Royalist when she anchored in the bay for a three-day visit to Gisborne in February, 1957......and today she is just out-of-date scrap metal.

The Gisborne Yacht Club's handsome new pavilion at Kaiti Beach was officially opened ten years ago.

Bussing to school became a thing of the past for primary students at Wainui Beach in 1962 when the new Wainui School was opened in time for the new year.

Mouth to mouth rescusitation, the then (in 1962) revolutionary method of artificial respiration, was demonstrated to the public for the first time at the surf life-saving carnival...the Northern Regional event which was held at Midway Beach.
