Old Post Office Demolished

Declared dangerous and uninhabitable since the Vlarch earthquake the old Post Office was recently demolished.

The building was erected in 1902, and opened on the 13th of October that year.

Additions were made in 1926, but after the Napier earthquake the clock tower was removed, as it was from almost every other Post Office.

Prior to this building an earlier Post Office on the same block was opened on the 16th February, 1877, but even before this a telephone exchange was opened on the 4th May, 1875.
