Furnishing Fund For New library

During the next month an appeal will be conducted to raise funds to furnish the new H. B. Williams Memorial Library upon its completion.

The target set is £5,000, this being the sum necessary to equip the building with seating, shelves, desks, reading tables, etc. This is in accordance with the standard recommended by the architects (Messrs Glengarry, Corson and Pilbrow) after consultation with the city librarian and the N.Z. Library Association.

By raising this figure a proportionally greater sum will be available from that budgeted by the administrating local bodies for the stocking of the library.

It must be realised that a much greater book stock will be needed as the new library will be four times bigger than the old one.

However, don't forget that at present, the hopelessly overcrowded premises are able to cater for only a quarter of the city's needs.
