Arthur Lydiard In Gisborne

The top-line New Zealand athletics coach Arthur Lydiard, along with the Empire Games hurdling medallist Avis McIntosh and N.Z. cricketer Peter McGregor, paid Gisborne a brief visit recently.

During their stay, Mr Lydiard lectured at a public meeting, and the trio gave an exhibition to pupils of the Gisborne Boys' High School.

During the exhibition, Mr Lydiard gave a short address on coaching techniques, and challenged the school's top sprinters to a race with Mrs McIntosh to demonstrate the necessity of a fast start.
