Jaycee Regional Conference
Last month, the regional conference of Jaycees was honoured with the presence of their World President, Mr Eric Stevenson, the National President, Mr Dave Fine, and National Vice-President, Mr Bruce Potts.
As the visitors were travelling by railcar to Gisborne, the local branch took advantage of the fact by staging a kidnapping at Matawhero railway station. In assorted weird disguises, they held up the railcar, took both presidents off, and collected two shillings by way of ransom frost every Jayoee travelling in the train.
The kidnappers blocked the line at Matawhero. From left, standing; Keith "Sandwichman" Mullooly, Dick Rice, Michael Graham, "Sheik" Phil Andrews, Pat Brosnan and Mike Brittenden. Squatting are, Jim "Butch" McAneney and Laurie Pinner.
