A Near Drowning
An eleven-year-old girl, Isabel Waka-taka, had a narrow escape from drowning on a recent Saturday afternoon, when she was taken from the surf in an unconscious state by a nearby resident, Mr R. Hamon.
She was bathing near her home at the abattoirs, in almost exactly the same spot as that where a man lost his life a month before.
Mr Tom Harris, a member of the Midway Surf Club party which arrived on the scene, applied mouth-to-mouth resuscitation until the arrival of the Fire Brigade with a portable resuscitator.
The patient was then rushed to hospital where she was revived, and was able to return home the following day.
A crowd quickly gathered round the patient and her resuscitators
Members of the Fire Brigade, Surf Club, St. John Ambulance, and a doctor, Dr. J. S. Beedie, working on the patient.
