A meeting of enthusiasts was held recently at the Gisborne Y.M.C.A. to promote interest in the advantages of physical development by weight training. Here Graham Blaxland gives a demonstration, lifting the 1451b weight.

Some concern was felt in the recent wet weather for the construction works for the new bridge across the Waipaoa at Mawhero, in case the river should flood badly. Fortunately the river did not rise unduly, as the photograph below indicates.

Mr and Mrs T. P. Hall, 12 Beach Road, shown cutting the cake at their silver wedding anniversary party recently in the Manchester Unity Hall in Palmerston Road. Mr and Mrs Hall entertained a number of friends on the occasion, and were the recipients of good wishes from all present.

Much interest was created among the horse-loving public of Poverty Bay by the school for riders conducted at ' the showgrounds by Mr C. Bolgar, which could not fail to result in a valuable improvement in riding standards in the district. Following the sohool, competitions in jumping were held, the winners being Mr Jim Mclldowie, senior class (top picture), Miss S. Dodd, lady rider (middle), and Mr R. Reiohenbach, junior class.
