National Orchestra's Visit

The National Orchestra made its first appearance in Nelson in three years when two concerts were given in the Nelson College Hall. The evening performance was given to a packed and enthusiastic audience, and the second to more than 2000 secondary school children the next day. The latter gave the orchestra a no less enthusiastic reception. Maurice Till appeared as soloist and the orchestra was under the baton of John Hopkins. So popular was the orchestra's visit that those considering the Christmas holiday programme could well give consideration to inviting the orchestra to Nelson for a proms concert in January.
