The Big Snow
The heaviest falls of snow on the Takaka hills for many years were greeted with mixed feelings. The kids thought it was wonderful, the Ministry of Works men, trying to keep the roads clear, had other words for it, and the farmers' views were unprintable. Nevertheless, the view of snow-covered peaks from Nelson was outstanding, and the thousands of visitors to the summit certainly enjoyed themselves. This aerial view, taken by John Sharp, shows the extent of the fall.
