Student teachers who have been completing their training at schools within the Nelson Education Board's district received their graduation certificates at a ceremony just before the close of the year. The graduates, with the guests of honour in the front row (Messrs I. W. Hanna, district senior inspector, B. C. Spiers, chairman of the board, Dr J. F. Mann, principal Christchurch Teachers' College, and Mr D. E. Gunn, president Nelson branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute), are shown in this picture.

The first two-inch layer of high density bituminous concrete was being laid by this paving machine of Highways Construction when we took this pic in Halifax Street recently. When the job is completed the street will be covered in a 4-inch layer of this very solid paving.
