Tahunanui Beach Girls

The question most of the huge crowd was asking itself, during the parade of girls for the "Miss Tahunanui Beach Girl" contest at the beach, was: "Where have all the girls gone?" Only five entrants came forward for the major contest, which carries some excellent prizes. Entries were much better for the "Miss Teenage" contest (14 entries) and there seemed to be hundreds in the "Miss Teeny Weeny" contest.

Jenny Page, Wellington, won the "Miss tahunanui" title.

The tear being shed by Sharyn Wilkinson (Stoke) was not for joy at being placed second in the "Miss Teeny Weeny" competition. She just wanted her mum.

Top muscle man in a hilarious contest for the "Mr Tahuna" title was Mike Thomas.

"Miss Teenage" (Irene Tinning, of Christchurch) also won the "Photographers' Choice" award.
