Progress at Kaiteriteri

Kaiteriteri Beach has long been the favourite holiday venue for hundreds of families from all over New Zealand. It has a wonderful climate; is scenically very beautiful; is located close to excellent fishing grounds and is sheltered enough for the boatie and the water skier. In the past, it lacked only one amenity - an area for the entertainment of campers and visitors sated by sun and water. But this has, in part, been remedied and there is every prospect that in the future further such facilities will be provided by the Kaiteriteri Domain Board.

The most obvious improvement has been the provision of the miniature golf links (left) on an area of reclaimed mudflat. This work cost the board nearly $2000, but so popular has it been that it now seems likely that it will have paid for itself before the season is over.

Less obvious Improvements include new fences, stainless steel wash tubs in the laundries, extra washing machines and similar facilities for campers. Another is the completion of a new site (at left) for another block and for camping sites. The vast mud flats (below) offer tremendous potential for extension of the camp, and no doubt these will be utilised when the finance becomes available. Another new amenity, and a very popular one, is a bush walk over a track hacked out of the bush by resident, Bill Withell (seen below with wife June who looks after the golf course). The pic on the previous page was taken from one of the lookouts on this track, as is the one below right.
