Slotcars Racing

Racing slotcars is the hobby of Geoff Stephens, of 51 Arapiki Road, Stoke, and it is also the hobbies of his boys Glen and Paul, and friends, Bruce Bell, Stephen Bell, Stewart Robinson, Peter Fisher and Allan Stephens (below). But to have a slotcar raceway, you've got to have a track, and so the group turned to, dismantled their old 90ft, sixtrack raceway which was too slow for real racing, and built this super 60f t four-lane track in the basement of the Stephens's home. The boys have formed themselves into an unofficial club and on club nights the competition, so we hear, is tremendous. As well as racing the model cars, the group builds its own machines and maintain them too. Who is the champ? This hasn't been decided yet although Allan was way ahead on points on the old track.
