Athletics Meeting

The Nelson Athletic, Cycling and Harrier Club had quite a let-down over the holiday period when the Australian athletes scheduled to compete at the meeting did not arrive. And so the Festival Games were but a pale imitation of a festival athletic meeting at which officials almost outnumbered competitors.

Marion Higgs (Mapua) put the shot 31ft to win the event.

In the junior mile, R. Sowman just beat R. Dixon.

First two home in the 15-mile race were Clive Frethey (Christchurch) and Murray Taylor.

John Dixon clocked a good 4 min 11 secs for the mile.
