We're not going to say that this was the greatest Mardi Gras ever, because we don't believe it was. In fact we're asking ourselves - as others are also - "oh where, oh where has the old spirit of the Mardi Gras gone?" Sure, the entertainment was good, but somehow or other this year's Mardi Gras didn't click, notwithstanding the tremendous effort put in by Jaycees.

Queen of the Mardi Gras this year was lovely Christine Yarker (far left). Christine, a Nelsonian, has spent the last three years at Otago University. With Christine, and King of the Mardi Gras, Tex Morton, (left) are Pam Patterson (2nd) and Teresa Johnson (3rd). Below left are the queen finalists: Jenny Page (Wellington), Gail Turner, Karen McConchie, Pam Patterson, Theresa Johnson, Christine Yarker, Penny Boston (Christchurch), Gail Shepherd and Suzanne Kellery.
