A Rugby Milestone

The decision of the Golden Bay-Motueka Rugby Union to enter into negotiations with the Nelson Union on the vexed question of amalgamation will delight Rugby followers in the district. At the moment negotiations are still exploratory, but the way does at last seem open for some direct action which will be of inestimable benefit to the sport throughout the whole district.

There are few clauses in the draft proposals likely to prove contentious. The Bays' proposals make it obvious that they do not intend any Bays' section of any amalgamated union should be a junior partner in any agreement. Nor should they be. Boundaries will have to be completely forgotten if the partnership is to succeed. We sincerely hope the discussions are fruitful.
