The Nelson Photo News

57

Through Hill and Stream

In this issue we commence another new "Photo News" feature – one which should prove of interest to all, but especially the thousands (literally) who shoot or fish in the Nelson district. To ensure the success of this feature, we appeal to all shooters or fishermen to co-operate with us and inform us of any good catches or kills so we can photograph them. Also to keep us informed of any other interesting facets of these sports in Nelson s great outdoors.

We commence the feature with a day in the bush with Peter Walsh, a 19-year-old semi-professional pig and deer shooter. While Peter strode through bush and fern with his dogs, Flash and Tiger, we trotted along loaded with cameras to record these pix (somewhere in the Nelson district). Flash and Tiger put up a pig but it fought its way into fern, consistently breaking the bails the dogs put up. Peter, who prefers to stick when he can, didn't get the opportunity with this fellow and he had to shoot it. The pig, a boar of about 1501bs. was about 3 to 4 years' old. It is seen with the dogs (left) and below with Peter as he cuts it up.
