Acclimatised 100 Years

Last month the Nelson Acclimatisation Society celebrated its first 100 years with a formal dinner in the Redwood Hall. The society began its work of fostering and protecting animals and birds in the province in 1863, but minutes of meetings were not kept until 1868. In the intervening years the work of the society has ensured that while game has been available to the sportsman, the wholesale destruction of fish and wildlife has been prevented.
