Flooring To Order

Putting the flooring in a second storey has always been a time-consuming job, and a hard one if the floor is concrete. But not for the men of C. Gibbons and Co working on extensions to the factory of Farm Products Ltd, Halifax Street. The contracting company pre-fabbed the flooring at its plant on the reclamation, then each of the 44ft-long pre-stressed sections was lifted by crane and slipped easily into place. By using this method the firm was able to lay the floor for the office block in less than a day. All that remains now is for the floor to be concreted to a depth of 3 inches. An added advantage of this method was that the normal flow of vehicle traffic into the building was not disturbed.
