Nelson College Beats Shirley High

Nelson College 1st XV has had its ups and downs this season, but a period of uncertainty came to an end late last month when the side scored a convincing win over Shirley Boys' High School, 14-5, at Nelson. Upon return to Christchurch, Shirley went on to win the coveted inter-secondary school Rugby title, so that Nelson's win was over a most worthy opponent. Nelson established a 6-5 lead at half time and kept the pressure on in the second half. Nelson's handling and running were much more incisive than Shirley, and a lack of understanding between the Shirley half-back and first five-eighths, was quickly exploited by Nelson.
