In spite of extensive alterations and traffic lanes at the Three Brothers Corner, Richmond, the odd accident still occurs here. These two cars were involved in a collision at the corner recently.

Something new for Nelson, a "Mr Whippy" van, owned and operated by Dick Atkinson, who came from Christchurch to start the venture.

These massive concrete cylinders are not culverts, as they appear to be, but sections of what will be the piles for the new Branch Bridge, between Tophouse and Blenheim. The cylinders, manufactured in Nelson, have been taken to the site. There cable will be strung through the small holes and stressed, and the whole pile lifted by crane and dropped into position on the riverbed.
