Marlborough too strong

Play had not been in progress for more than a few moments when it became apparent that Marlborough was a very well-oiled machine which Nelson would find hard to stop. Its forwards played with tremendous verve, and the backing up of all players, forwards and backs, was a joy to behold. In the first half Marlborough scored 14 of its 19 points, but Nelson replied vigorously in the second half and the wet conditions of the second half were used more capably by Nelson than by Marlborough. Nelson, however, failed to score and Marlborough was a convineing winner. The readiness of all Marlborough forwards and backs to support each other is exemplified in the pic above taken during the first half. At left, Terry Julian goes high for the ball, but loses it.

At right, pix taken at the after-match function.
