Historic Homes No. 17: " Fellworth "

×

One of the best known of Nelson's historic homes is "Felworth", the property of the Cawthron Institute. The beautiful old building which commands a wonderful view of Nelson is on Milton Street facing straight up Bridge Street. The house was built originally for one of Nelson's early magistrates, Mr John Sharp, and is about 90 years' old. We have been unable to trace its history between the time it was taken over by Mr Sharp and 1920 when it became the property of the institute. The house stands in about 4 acres of land, and the basic plan for subdivision of this land is to come before the Nelson City Council shortly. The house itself will be vacated when the institute obtains new premises.
