A fellow motorist complained to us recently about the apparently redundant "Give Way" sign on Parkers Road where it joins the bend of Bolt Road. His complaint was that several times he has stopped at the "Give Way" sign because he has seen a car coming on his right from Bolt Road, and it had also stopped at the "Give Way" sign at the exit from Bolt Road. And there the two drivers sat, each waiting for the other to move off. We had a look at the corner later and could see no reason for the erection of the "Give Way" sign in Parkers Road, other than that it was intended to slow down traffic at the bend. Visibility at the bend is reasonable and if the motorist using Bolt Road sticks to the traffic regulations and "Gives Way" and also gives way to through traffic, then there seems no necessity for this second sign.

Night visibility on Wakefield Quay has been improved immeasurably with the erection of the new lights on the eastern side of the roadway on Wakefield Quay. With the exception of Magazine Point and the bend close to the foot of Richardson Street, the lights will be continued through to Tahunanui, only on the eastern side of the roadway. The City Council is to be congratulated on winning this battle for the exclusion of poles on the seaward side of the road.
