Rebuilding will cost millions

The damage caused by the quake is likely to run into millions of dollars. Hundreds of thousands of dollars were spent on the Buller Gorge route alone, and all the work done there has been undone. Roads throughout the Inangahua county require major reconstruction, and damage to homes and property is enormous.
