Weather Plagues Races

The Nelson Jockey Club has had to contend with unfavourable weather in the past, but it seemed that this year the weather man took a real dislike to the club. The day before the cup meeting the weather was perfect. On the Saturday it poured and poured. A brilliantly fine Sunday raised hopes for the Monday, but again it poured, and was bleak and cold. Cup winner this year was Gold Mint who was coupled with the three-times cup winner, Grand Coeur. Gold Mint is at top left with owners, Mr and Mrs M. N. Manthel, Wellington. The cup finish with Gold Mint just heading Port Bank to the finish line is bottom right.
