Here are two keen gardeners--in fact they're so keen they do it for a living. Meet Bryan Douglas and Bill Lucre, members of the city council reserves department. Bryan came to Nelson from England nearly two years ago and has been in the department practically all that time. He's studying for a Diploma in Horticulture and finds that his studies and family of two keep him busy in his leisure time. Bill is single and comes from Motueka. He's been with the department two months. Next year he's off to Lincoln College to study for a Diploma in Horticulture, but he's also a keen sportsman, having an active interest in Rugby, badminton and cricket.

Rita Davis hails from Collingwood, but at the moment works at Nelson Sea Foods, in Bridge Street. She's been tripping around a bit, in New Zealand and Australia. She's keen on sewing, knitting and ballroom dancing.

Another who's keen on overseas trips is Margaret Black, an office clerk with K. M. Black and Co. Like Rita, she is single. Margaret was educated in Nelson and has lived here all her life, but tries to get a holiday in every year in Australia. Her interests include golf, reading and visiting friends.

This chap's a trimmer. He is, dinkum. In fact, Ken Scholfield is a foreman trimmer with Car Traders Ltd. Ken, who is married with two children, has been with the firm for 16 years. He has lived here all his life. His big interest - and only one, he says - is racing pigeons.

The attractive postie is Kathleen ("Kate") Sumby, a newlywed of less than a year. Kathleen has lived in Nelson about seven years (she came from Hamilton), but has been a postie for only 18 months. Hubby is Bill Sumby, a carpenter-joiner. Kathleen's other main interests are knitting, gardening, reading and sewing.
