Valuable Thoroughbreds Landed in Nelson

×

Two English thoroughbreds bought for New Zealand interests were among the 21 horses landed from the Port New Plymouth when she dodcked at Port Nelson two weeks ago. They were Serenader and Red Rumour. The remainder, after a trip to Wellington and then to Mount Maunganui, will go to Australia. The consignment was an especially valuable one worth $250,000. A fleet of stock transporters from Wellington was at the wharf to take the horses on the next stage of their trans-world trip. Above, is Serenader, en route to Morrinsville. Left, some needed a little persuasion to enter the float. One of the most beautiful horses was the grey, Regal Light ($28,000), below left. Precautions against the entry of foot and mouth disease were taken, and here, gear for the horses is taken from the ship for fumigation (below).
