Representative Rugby

On a bright sunny day at Rugby Park, Motueka, Nelson representative Rugby sailed out of the doldrums that had becalmed it last year. The Seddon Shield holders, Golden Bay-Motueka, weakened by the loss of several seasoned backs, got quite a hiding by 30 points to 14, in a game in which Nelson held control for the greater part. The Nelson backs paved the way for the win, its inside combination, and three-quarters, looking far superior. It was, also, pleasing to note Nelson at last placing reliance on handling in the backs. Since this match the shield holders drew 9-all with Marlborough in a scrappy game. At this stage, it would appear that Golden Bay's hold on the trophy is a fairly shaky one.
