Meet a couple of "blind" men, Jim Smith and WILLIAM "POP" MASKILL, both of whom work at the factory of Nelson Venetian Blinds. Jim has a family of three and two grandchildren. He's lived in Nelson since 1941 and in his leisure time hops into his caravan to go fishing or take photographs. "Pop" is a well-known Nelson identity with a strong Central Otago outback background. "Pop" has been a shearer, horse-breaker, tunnel worker, rabbiter and a policeman. Today he's the father of six boys and a girl and the grandfather of 21. For fun he retains his interest in Rugby, potters in the garden, and works a trotter.

Meet Kaye Swan and "BILL" GRIFFITHS, both members of the office staff of Kempthorne Prosser and Co, Nelson. Kaye, who is 17, is still single, has worked for the firm for five months. Her home town is Takaka, where she was educated at the Takaka District High School. Out of work-time, Kaye likes to knit and sew, dance, swim and play tennis. Not so Bill--he's a keen gardener and tele addict. Bill's been with the company for 13 months He has one married daughter.

If you go into the Broadway Milk Bar, chances are you 11 be served by Cherrill Beattie. Cherrill, who is approaching 19, is engaged to be married (to Melvin Cooper). She has lived in Nelson all her life and was educated at Nelson College for Girls. Her main interests outside her work are Melvin, sewing, and swimming.

Doing his bit to see that your telephone behaves itself, is Murray Clark, a single man aged 20, who is a technician with the telephone branch of the Nelson post office. Murray has been a technician for four years, three of them being spent in his home town, Motueka. Murray is a senior Rugby player (United club in Motueka) and his hobbies include snorkel fishing and swimming.

The reading of poetry is the abiding passion of Linda Hands, a beauty consultant, at Catto's pharmacy. Linda's home town is Westport, but before coming to Nelson a year ago, she worked in Christchurch. She is also a music enthusiast.
