"Housie"

While awaiting the start of a meeting in Haven Road one evening last month, we noticed a stream of cars and people entering the Auckland Point School. Out of curiosity we investigated, and within minutes reached for a camera. The big crowd was attending a "housie" evening and the general purpose room was packed tight with players. Busiest man there was caller Dave Dunbar (left). At top are a couple of hopefuls, Winifred Peacock and Audrey Fox. Different attitudes to the game are those of Elaine Hemi and Kumi Hemi (centre left). It's a case of "Eyes down", and at bottom left and centre Grace Whitelaw and Marie Muller receive prizes from Ron Marris and Charlie Woods respectively. At bottom right, Vera Baigent and Nola Laity had eyes only for their numbers.
