Catholic Priests Move On

After 18 years'service to the Catholic community in the Nelson district, the Rev. Father M. Bradford, parish priest of the vast Richmond parish, has been transferred to Inglewood, Taranaki. Before being shifted to Richmond eight years ago, Father Bradford was for 10 years parish priest at Motueka. In both parishes and throughout Nelson he will long be remembered for his ministrations to the sick and elderly, and for his building activities. At a farewell Mass and social function in the Songer Street Hall, two other Richmond–parish priests, Fathers R. Begley and J. G. Much (top right) were also bidden farewell. They have been posted to Hawera and Bulls respectively. Also at the function were Steve Morgan. Canon B. J. Machell (Church of England) and Rev M. Bruce (Methodist), of Richmond (right).

During the month, in Nelson, parishioners of St. Mary's gathered to make a presentation to the Very Rev. Father S. Stapleton, on the occasion of the 25th year of his ordination to the priesthood, and to bid farewell to Father J. Crispin, who is to work in the mission field in Fiji. Below, Father Crispin receives a presentation from Mr Tim Costello, while at right Mr Johnny Walker hands Father Stapleton a folder of tickets for an Australian holiday.
