Swimming Carnival
A heavy downpour ended a most enjoyable evening's swimming for a capacity crowd at the Municipal Pool. Some excellent racing was seen before the rain sent unprotected patrons scurrying for cover. The Nelson Swimming Club, which organised the carnival, put through a lot of races in a short time - a tribute to its organising. Above, David Henderson (Wellington) covered the 100 yds open butterfly in amazing time.
Judges, Tony Wilson (Wellington) and Arthur Gladstone (back), and Tony Garguilo and Tom Gould keep an eye on a race in progress.
Peggy Voight (Mot) leaves the pool after winning the grade C 100 yds under 14 breaststroke.
Keeping warm: Kevin Jennings, Mark Lincoln, Robert Harwood and Ronnie Tomlinson
Jane Arnst finishing first in the grade B 100 yds under 14 breaststroke.
After a gruelling grade 1 220 open freestyle, Barbara Jonas (2nd) and Suzanne Schon (1st) had no smiles left
