Picnic Races

The usual picnic race meetings held on two days at the Richmond track attracted good fields and large crowds. The equalisator operated each day, giving punters, even those with notoriously bad reputations as "pickers", a good chance to collect a divi. Probably the only untoward incident of the meetings occurred in the Gary Dillon Handicap on the first day when Limbo Jim, after being involved in a mix-up at the start, broke a sulky and raced about 200 yds with his driver, T. O. C. Boyd, hanging on like grim death. Our pic above shows the incident, and that at left a closeup of the sulky and Mr Boyd's attempts to use his feet as brakes.
