Launchings

The first concretehulled trawler to operate out of Nelson was launched recently. The vessel, the Aurora, was christened by the wife of the owner, Mr Alf Hosie, in traditional manner, and she began operations soon afterwards. Total cost of the trawler was about $8,600 compared with about $12,000 for a wooden vessel. The hull was made in Auckland and was rigged in Nelson. Above, the Aurora, as she takes to the water.

New Flying Dutchman

Miss C. Russell wanted to own a yacht. So she bought a Flying Dutchman hull in Christchurch and handed it over to Nelson yachties, Terence Gould and Kevin Plum to sail. We attended the launching.

That's no way to treat champagne (or a new dress, either).
