World Knitting Record To W.D.F.F. Teams

From the sheep's back to the back of the Mayor of Richmond (Mr M. J. McGlashen) in 6 hrs 46 min, 19 sec. This was the time it took a 12-member team to shear a sheep, spin the wool and knit a jersey in an attack on the world record time for this feat. It was accomplished by the team at the Nelson A and P Association's show, beating the old record, set in Hawke's Bay, by 35 mins and 16 sees. The team's efforts attracted considerable interest at the show.

Watched by a big crowd, Mesdames Ruth Jonas (Nelson W. D. F. F) and Bev Friend (Stanley Brook) spin the wool into yarn for the knitters

Knitters hard at work: Mesdames Joy Cole (Lower Moutere), Norma Harris (Richmond), Edith Bennett (Richmond) and the skipper, Joan Hancock (Tapawera).

More spinners: Mesdames Daphne Simes (Stoke) and Althea Starnes (Motueka).

By rights this pic shouldn't be on this page, because Gordon Burrows (sheep judge from Geraldine) and Alan Denton (Matariki) were not connected with the record attempt, but they were interested in the wool which surrounded the team.
